Please bear in mind that these notes are for guidance only and we cannot accept any liability for the quantities given.When placing any order for bricks or blocks you should order additional material to allow for wastage or breakage.

BRICKS
Although bricks may very in colour and size, even within the same batch of bricks, it is generally accepted that 1 square metre of brickwork is the equivalent of 60 bricks for a single skin wall and 120 bricks for a solid one brick thick wall.

BLOCKS
Building a sinlge skin wall using 100mm Blocks will take approximately 10 blocks per square metre of blockwork.

MORTAR
Genral purpose mortar in a mix of 1 part cement to 5 parts of building sand is commonly used in bricklaying. One 25kg bag of Mastercrete cement and 5 bags of building sand will make a general purpose mortar of 1:5. This would be enough mortar to lay approximately 140 bricks or 35 concrete blocks.

PLASTICISER
Plasticiser is the modern replacement for lime that was used in mortar mixes. If you are laying your brickwork in cold weather or looking for increased flexibility and workability you should add plasticiser to the mixing water. Quantities to be used as shown on the packaging instrcutions. Always follow manufacturers guidelines.
